Bears on National Geographic Scandinavia

Stefano story on brown bear (firstly published on NGM Italy), is featured this May in an eight pages portfolio on National Geographic Scandinavia (Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweeden). The photographs illustrating this story, are a selection from Stefano Unterthiner's book, "The nights of the bear".

World Press Photo 2011

Stefano is one of the winner of the WORLD PRESS PHOTO of the year 2011! His images of whooper swans, shot for National Geographic Magazine, won the second prize in the category Nature Stories.

New book by Stefano Unterthiner

Stefano's new book is now available! "Gli angeli dell'inverno" is a long journey with one of the most fascinating bird of the boreal region: the whooper swan. Stefano spent six months in the field, on assignment for a story for National Geographic Magazine, to produce the images of this book. A DVD, telling the "behind the scene" stories, is included.


The whooper swan is a bird to inspire flights of fancy.

New article in National Geographic Magazine

New photo story by Stefano Unterthiner in the December issue of National Geographic Magazine! Stefano captures the grace and poetry of the whooper swan; he spent several months in the field, traveling to Japan, Sweden and Finland, photographing for this story.
